Protecting your personal and financial information should always be a priority when conducting any type of banking transaction. Pegasus Bank has implemented extensive security measures to protect your personal and financial information. However, it is also the customer's responsibility to keep their information secure when using Internet Banking. Below you will find information to help you protect your personal information and your computer while using internet banking.
Operating Systems
Always use the most current operating system available and check for updates regularly. The newer your operating system, the more security you have for your computer. For the most secure connection, you should update your computer to the latest operating system your computer can support. To view the most current updates available, check with your operating system's manufacturer's web site and review their list of recommended updates. Some operating systems will notify you when new updates are available or even install the updates automatically. If your system does not provide automatic updates, visit one of the following sites for update information:
Web Browser
Use the most current web browser, and by doing so you are ensuring the most secure connection.
Firewalls
Firewalls are an extra level of protection for your home or work computers. Some operating systems provide this service for their customers. If you do not currently have a firewall, it is recommended that you install one to help protect your computer.
Computer Viruses
Anti-virus software protects the security of your computer by preventing viruses. Once installed, the virus software usually provides continuous updates. You should take advantage of these updates from the manufacturer to combat the latest virus threats.
"Adware" and "Spyware"
"Adware" and "Spyware" record your online activity and report it to disreputable sources. They can even record information you have provided while shopping online or conducting internet banking activities - e.g. credit card numbers and login information. To prevent these programs from attaching to your computer: (1) Avoid downloading software from unknown sources and never accept an invitation to download software from a source that you do not know and trust; (2) Scan your computer for Spyware and Adware often. There are publicly available programs which scan your PC and help remove any existing Spyware and Adware.
Secure Websites
It is very important to ensure that the websites you visit for shopping, banking, etc. are secure websites. There are a couple of ways to verify that the site you are on is secure. First, you can check by looking at the web site address, look for an "s" to follow http (https://). You can also look for an image of a lock in the lower right-hand corner to indicate a secure connection.
Usernames and Passwords
Your user name and passwords are created to protect your personal and financial information. You should treat your user id and password in the same manner you would treat any confidential information. Use the following discretion with your information:
1. Create a user name and password that are random. Social Security Numbers, birthdates or anniversary dates should never be used in creating a user id and password. If possible, select a user name and password that contains both letters and numbers.
2. Change your password often. You can change your password at Pegasus Bank online in moments by logging-in and selecting "User Options."
3. Never share or write down your user name and password with anyone.
4. Never "save" your log-in information on a computer to which others have access.
Be mindful of e-mail messages that request any of your personal information. Pegasus Bank will never send you an e-mail asking you to provide such information. Keep these points in mind when handling email messages:
1. Delete and never respond to an e-mail asking for personal log-in information.
2. Always verify that the correct site address is in the address line of your Internet browser when you log-in to Internet Banking (www.pegasusbankdallas.com).
3. If you receive a suspicious e-mail, contact Pegasus Bank immediately.
